Easter in Vodice

Easter in Vodice (next village to Tribunj) is an extra special event lasting from the Thursday through until Saturday and called Jesus Guardians. Jesus Guardians starts with a service on Monday Thursday after Mass and the Lord's supper.

The guardians wear the costume of Roman soldiers and come to the church altar where they guard Jesus's grave until the resurrection.

On Good Friday there is a procession through the city following Jesus who carries the big heavy cross. The service ends on Holy Saturday when the procession prostates on the floor and two angels announce the resurrection.

For many years the Vodice city tourist office have put on a breakfast in the city square on Easter Monday to which all are invited. The breakfast is served by women dressed in authentic national costume and the food is also traditional.

Groups of singers and musicians from surrounding villages all come to add their skills to the festival and it is a perfect opportunity to share in a traditional local festival with local people enjoying themselves.
