Tribunj
Tribunj, an old fishing village, is situated west of Vodice with a very beautiful old part of town on an island connected to the mainland by an old stone bridge.
Tribunj is an interesting tourist destination but also one of the most important fishing fleet ports in Dalmatia.
In recent times a large marina was built with all the necessary facilities for yachtsmen and repairs.
The name Tribohunj, which dates from 1463, comes from the old Slavic mythology. From that name a later Italian name Rebocconi emerged, which means three pieces. The Village of Tribunj originally had a fortified castle on a small island with tight streets and compact houses which sheltered people fleeing from the Turks. The Austrian government erected a white stone pier, and on the south side large stones were thrown to brake the waves and stop them from reaching the houses. The other part of the island coastline has been covered with stones and earth allowing the night procession on Good Friday of 1935. to go around the whole village for the first time .
In 1298 the fortress Jurjevgrad is mentioned on the hill of the mainland on whose ruins, by the cemetery the church of St. Nicholas was erected in 1452. The church was built by Šimun Šižgorić and consecrated by bishop Juraj Šižgorić in 1463. St. Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors and fishermen, is also the protector of Tribunj which is widely renowned as a fishing village. Even the older church of the Visitation bl. Virgin Mary exists since 1435. in Vrtli.
The Church of the Assumption of Mary, in which Mass is held nowadays, was built in 1883. at the foot of Mount St. Nicholas on a visible site towards the village on the island VODICE.
Tribunj offers you a wide selection of exclusive apartments and specially selected family homes for the many visitors who are welcomed each year. Most of the apartments and family homes offered by Tempus Fugit have sea views and sunny terraces.
