Dalmatia is the largest and the world's most famous historical region of Croatia. It occupies the southern end of Croatia and is a place of sun, warm sea, olives, wine, fish, songs, picturesque stone house villages, in other words a true primordial Mediterranean. This is also the richest cultural part of Croatia where there are four of five sites protected as a World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.
The largest tourist region of Dalmatia is a part of its largest city - Split. This is the centre and the true heart of Dalmatia where most of its inhabitants live and where the main Dalmatian islands and the most beautiful beaches are located. The majority of the most valuable cultural monuments and two from a total of five Croatian World heritage of UNESCO's sites are located here - The historical centre of Split with Diocletian's Palace and the historical city of Trogir.
Possibly the most beautiful jewel of Croatia's cultural heritage - the Old City of Dubrovnik, is situated on the extreme south in the sunniest Croatian tourist region.
